Marìa Fernanda Mendoza, IAF Consultant for Latin America and Katie Webb, IAF Steering Committee Member, who coordinate the IAF’s network of associations representing writers and artists in Latin America and the Caribbean, will attend the Buenos Aires Book Fair from 26th – 29th April 2022.
At the book fair they will make presentations at events organised by the Argentine Association of Translators and Interpreters (La Asociación Argentina de Traductores e Intérpretes) and the Association of Cartoonists of Argentina (La Asociación de Dibujantes de la Argentina). They will present the history of the IAF, its work and their role in developing the IAF’s network in Latin America and the Caribbean, which now includes 15 associations of writers and artists from Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean, which started with an event in Puebla, Mexico, in 2015.
Their work, in line with the objectives of IAF, is to ensure authors in Latin America have a platform where they are aware of and can fully benefit from the rights in their work to support them in making a living and to create the conditions in which they can be paid fairly and recognised for all uses of their work. This work includes strengthening the author’s position with international and national policy makers, promoting the IAF’s ‘Ten Principles for Fair Contracts for Authors in Latin America, supporting the issues of authors’ organisations and, through meetings and events, promoting and sharing the work of authors in the region, focussing on linguistic and cultural diversity.
Buenos Aires Book Fair is one of the top five expos in the world and attracts more than one million visitors each year. It will be a wonderful opportunity to speak to a large proportion of the Spanish speaking world about the International Authors Forum and to bring members of IAF’s Latin America network together to present their work and at the same time put that work into action together.
