UNESCO World Book Capital 2026: Call for Applications

Serena BaroneNews, UNESCO, World Book Capital

UNESCO have launched a call to all UNESCO member state cities to submit their applications to become the World Book Capital (WBC) 2026.

In 2001, UNESCO adopted the 31 C/Resolution 29, establishing the World Book Capital programme and naming Madrid as the first WBC city in 2001. Through the WBC initiative, UNESCO recognises the commitment of cities to fostering literature and encouraging reading for a whole year.

The nominated  city will be a member of the World Book Capital Network, a network that promotes the importance of books and reading as cornerstones to more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable societies.

All applicants should consult the Application Guidelines and must submit an Online Application Form by the 10th of May 2024.
