UNESCO has launched a call for cities interested in being titled World Book Capital 2025. Through the World Book Capital (WBC) program, UNESCO acknowledges cities’ commitment to fostering reading and promoting books in the year between Copyright Day on 23rd of April 2023.
Following Guadalajara, Mexico, as World Book Capital 2022, Accra, Ghana, will be World Book Capital 2023 beginning in April, followed by Strasburg, France, in 2024.
Cities are invited to submit their complete application, drafted in one of UNESCO Secretariat’s working languages (English or French), to UNESCO no later than Sunday 16 April 2023.
The application form will be on-line for the first time and the UNESCO website provides new guidelines for applications, as well as the criteria against which candidacies are evaluated.
