We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the International Authors Forum (IAF) and the International Federation of Translators (FIT).

Both organisations have shared goals, striving to ensure authors’ rights are protected. IAF represents over 700,000 authors worldwide and campaigns for their interests in every country. It provides authors’ organisations worldwide with an international platform to exchange information, develop positions and provide support in matters concerning authors’ rights.

FIT is the federation of professional associations of interpreters, translators and terminologists around the world, working in areas as diverse as literary, scientific and technical, public service, court and legal settings, conference interpreting, media and diplomatic fields and academia. FIT supports members and the profession at an international level, building community, visibility and a sustainable future for the profession.

John Degen, Chair of IAF stated “The art of translation is integral to the growth and support of a global literature. The International Authors Forum recognizes the value of professional translators, and we are dedicated to working closely with the International Federation of Translators on our collective concerns. “

Alison Rodriguez, President of FIT said “Translators carry authors’ voices across cultural frontiers, ensuring they reach the widest global audience. Literary translators face changes and challenges that are aligned with those faced by authors in the digital environment. In this light, developing cooperation with the International Authors’ Forum, affirmed in this MoU, is as logical as it is necessary. “

The MoU will enable both organisations to nurture an environment of cooperation in support of professional translators’ associations, through shared objectives and a commitment to protect and strengthen the role of translators as authors of derivative works.
