The International Authors Forum (IAF) is proud to announce its support for a statement published in The Guardian that warns of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the creative industries, which was signed by over 10,000 artists, writers, and organizations.
The document urges artists, creators, industry leaders, and the public to come together to support responsible AI development.
A key message is the importance of respecting creators’ rights and ensuring fair compensation when their work is used to train AI. This united effort is especially timely, as the UK government considers adopting an ‘opt-out’ model for AI training.
The statement was spearheaded by Ed Newton-Rex, a former executive at Stability AI. He highlighted that many people whose livelihoods depend on creative work are “very worried” about the current situation.
