Today, the International Authors Forum (IAF) joined an international delegation representing the creative sector for a high-level meeting with the Director of INDAUTOR, Mexico’s National Institute of Copyright.
The delegation included representatives from IAF, IFRRO, and some of Mexico’s most prominent creators’ organisations and collective management organizations (CMOs), including SOOMAP, AMETLI, and CEMPRO. The aim of the meeting was to address urgent topics affecting the creative industry, identify areas of common interest, and strengthen collaboration at both national and international levels.
Key topics discussed during the meeting included:
- Artists’ Resale Rights in Mexico, where SOOMAP highlighted the long-standing fight for approved but not yet implemented tariffs.
- Artificial Intelligence and national development, exploring how AI impacts copyright and the creative sector.
- Private copying studies presented by IFRRO, providing insights into copyright practices and remuneration systems.
IAF Secretary General commented with success of this meeting: “IAF had the pleasure to discuss important copyright topics with senior representatives of INDAUTOR. We were delighted to note their understanding of the important role which creators play in the economic value chain of the creative industries. We look forward to working with them on revenue streams for creators, especially when facing the new challenges of Artificial Intelligence”
IAF remains committed to supporting authors’ rights, fostering fair and sustainable copyright practices, and promoting strong partnerships between governments, CMOs, and industry stakeholders worldwide.
