The International Authors Forum (IAF) took part in the 66th Series of Meetings of the WIPO Assemblies in Geneva, where global stakeholders gathered to address current challenges and opportunities in the field of intellectual property.

During the event, WIPO Director General Daren Tang introduced a major new initiative: the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII). IAF Secretary General Kevin Fitzgerald welcomed the announcement and shared the following reflection on its importance:

“Last week at the WIPO Assemblies, I had the opportunity to hear Director General Daren Tang introduce an exciting new initiative: the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII). This is a welcome and timely development. As AI continues to reshape the creative industries, we urgently need mechanisms that ensure fair compensation for human creators. The AIII could become a vital forum to support this.

WIPO’s role as a neutral and trusted global convener is more important than ever. It is uniquely positioned to bring together governments, rightsholders, tech companies, and civil society to craft functional, transparent licensing frameworks that work across borders. If implemented inclusively, the AIII can help Members States and other stakeholders to build the infrastructure needed to support sustainable income streams for authors and artists in the age of AI.

Collaboration is key—WIPO can and should facilitate stakeholders in finding the way.”
